Spain's Almaraz I nuclear power station stopped after pressure drop -regulator

MADRID, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Spain's 1,000-MW Almaraz I nuclear power station was automatically shut down late on Wednesday after the protection system was triggered by a pressure drop in the reactor, the Nuclear Security Council reported.

The cause of the pressure drop has been identified and, for the moment, the plant remains offline and secure, the regulator said.

Spain nuclear plants halted, watchdog calls meeting

MADRID, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Spain's nuclear watchdog on Monday called for a meeting of plant operators following the second unscheduled disconnection of a reactor in as many days.
The Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) confirmed earlier reports by industry sources that the 500-megawatt Garona plant was off line, due to an error in work on high-voltage installations which automatically halted the plant.

Spain nuclear plant Almaraz likely back by Thursday

MADRID, May 26 (Reuters) - Spain's 1,000-megawatt Almaraz I nuclear power station is likely to be back on line on Wednesday or Thursday after refuelling, management told Reuters on Monday.

A spokeswoman at the plant added that if reconnection began on Tuesday night or Wednesday, the plant would be back at full power by Thursday.

Spain watchdog boosts screening after nuclear leak

MADRID, May 7 (Reuters) - Spain's nuclear watchdog has stepped up screening of workers and visitors to the Asco I power station following a radioactive leak reported last month.

In a statement released late on Tuesday, the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) added that it had so far checked 1,625 people out of a planned total of 2,544 at the plant near northeastern port Tarragona and found none to have been contamminated.

Activists chained themselves to the main entrance gate at the plant in Cáceres.

A Greenpeace protest outside the Almaraz nuclear plant in Cáceres on Thursday blocked the main access for a number of hours, as activists demanded that the Spanish government put in place its ‘promised plan to abandon nuclear energy.’
