OVEREXPOSURE OF WORKER DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM |
On Nov. 17, 1992 a radiological incident occurred in the Vietnam National Center for Sciences, Hanoi. Due to the malfunction of the interlock system and bad co-ordination the operator started up the Microtron MT-17 while one of his co-workers was manipulating sample in the irradiation compartment and his hands were seriously irradiated by Bremsstrahlung radiation during two-four minutes. Twenty days after the incident the hands of the victim appeared to have been deeply burnt. The victim has been under medical treatment since then.
