Former Supreme Court judge banned from entering Ratnagiri

MUMBAI: Retired supreme court judge P B Samant, former admiral L Ramdas, retd high court judge B G Kolse-Patil and Vaishali Patil, the Medha Patkar of Konkan, are among those who have been banned from entering Ratnagiri district in view of the 'jail bharo' agitation on October 29 at Jaitapur, where India's biggest nuclear power plant (10,000 MW) is to come up.

India and Europe in civil nuclear accord

The European Union and India are to co-operate more closely on civil nuclear research and development as a way of strengthening a partnership that has often been seen as falling short of its potential.

Nicolas Sarkozy, France’s president, and Manmohan Singh, India’s prime minister, announced the agreement on Monday at an EU­-India summit that also produced promises of closer co-ordination of climate change and energy security policies.

Country's nuclear plants are facing fuel shortage: Kakodkar

HYDERABAD: Demand and supply for uranium will continue to be affected for some more years though efforts are on to get additional supplies, Chairman Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary Department of Atomic Energy, Anil Kakodkar on saturday said.

Kakodkar, who was in the city to participate in the Nuclear Fuel Complex Day celebration here today, said that currently the nuclear power plants in the country were working at half their capacity nearly of 4,000 MW due to the fuel shortage.

NSG member Germany is not enthusiastic about nuke deal

NEW DELHI: The US hope that the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal will be carried forward is not mirrored on the international stage. The issue is not likely to feature in any major way during the high profile visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to India from October 29 to November 1. It is understood that under the present situation, Germany, which will soon chair the Nuclear Suppliers Group, sees no point in formulating a position towards India’s civilian nuclear aspiration.
