Sept 11 (Reuters) - RWE AG, Germany's largest producer of power, said on Thursday it was prepared to invest profits from its nuclear power stations in renewable energy if it was allowed to operate the atomic plants longer.
German utilities, including RWE, E.ON AG, Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg and Vattenfall's German unit, are seeking to convince the German government to allow them to operate their nuclear power stations longer.
E.ON UK has entered into a transmission connection agreement with National Grid for up to 1600MWe of new capacity at Oldbury.
The Oldbury-on-Severn site named in the agreement is owned by National Grid and is the location of a substation. The site is adjacent to the Oldbury nuclear power station, which is owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and has two 225MWe Magnox units that are due to cease operation at the end of this year.
Sept. 5 (Bloomberg) -- RWE AG, Germany's second- biggest utility, is among 12 bidders which received tender documents to build Turkey's first nuclear-power station, the Dunya newspaper said.
RWE got the tender documents this week, Dunya said citing officials at the energy ministry. Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., Japan's Itochu Corp. and Turkish companies Haci Omer Sabanci Holding AS and Alarko Holding As are also among the companies which received the tender documents, the newspaper reported.
WARSAW, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Poland needs to build between 1,500 and 2,000 megawatts a year of new power capacity to keep up with growing demand, an adviser to the economy minister said on Wednesday.
The country, which needs to increase capacity quickly to make up for years of abandoning investments and plant renovations, would be interested in building natural-gas fired plants, Joanna Strzelec-Lobodzinska said.
"The estimates show Poland needs to create between 1,500 and 2,000 MW in new capacities to keep up with growing demand and replace outdated technologies," Lobodzinska told reporters.
A statement by the Socialists that nuclear power is not a taboo subject within the party could signal a parliamentary majority in favour of building new nuclear power plants in the Netherlands, reports Wednesday’s Telegraaf.
‘Everything is open to discussion. Nuclear power is not taboo for the SP,’ Socialist party (SP) leader Agnes Kant is quoted by the paper as saying.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the official start of construction on the second Bulgarian Belene nuclear power plant is scheduled for September 3. CEZ Romania expects the construction of the third and fourth reactors at the Cernavoda nuclear plant to be delayed about one year. On the other hand, CEZ bought in Eastern Romania a wind energy project evaluated at 100 million euro.
"We haven't been invited until now to continue the negotiations for the construction of the two Cernavoda rectors", said the CEZ Development Manager, Doru Voicu, who added that the company also waits for a response from Termoelectrica, in order to establish a partnership and build two thermal plants.
Berlin - Germany's oldest nuclear power plant still in operation was to have been shut down for good in autumn next year. That date was determined not so much by the plant's age - Biblis A went onstream in 1974 - as by a political decision taken in 2000 to phase out nuclear power completely by around 2021.
In terms of the relevant legislation passed two years later, each of Germany's 17 nuclear plants was allocated a block of remaining operating time.
FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - RWE AG. plans to shut down its Biblis A reactor for maintenance during the four months to September 2009, Mannheimer Morgen reported, citing the reactor's technical director Juergen Haag.
This would allow RWE to operate the reactor, which is Germany's oldest, until after the German parliamentary elections in autumn that year.
