SPE buys Belgian nuclear capacity from Electrabel

BRUSSELS, March 12 (Reuters) - Belgian electricity company SPE said on Wednesday it had bought 635 megawatts of nuclear energy capacity from Suez's Electrabel, boosting its share of Belgium's nuclear market to some 15 percent.

SPE, partly owned by Gaz de France and Britain's Centrica, said it was a three-part deal.

Bulgaria Shortlists 2 for Nuclear Plant

(AP) SOFIA, Bulgaria — Bulgaria has shortlisted Germany's RWE Power and Belgian Electrabel SA as strategic investors in a second nuclear plant, the state-owned NEK power utility said Tuesday.

NEK is seeking investors for a stake of up to 49 percent stake in the Belene Power Company, which will own and operate the new nuclear power plant.

Price for French nuclear tech may prove too high

With France pushing for greater cooperation on nuclear power with Romania, the Canadians who first introduced nuclear tech to Romania argue the Gallic technology comes at a cost the country may not be willing to pay.

Romania plans to build a second nuclear power station, but its rumoured interest in French nuclear technology may prove too expensive an option. News of the country’s flirtation with French nuclear technology arose when President Nicolas Sarkozy visited Bucharest last February.

Bulgaria seeks better offers for new nuclear plant

SOFIA, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Bulgaria's state power utility NEK said on Thursday it had asked strategic investors to file improved offers to acquire a 49-percent stake in a planned new nuclear power plant by Jan. 9.

NEK executive director Lyubomir Velkov told reporters all five short-listed bidders had been invited to sweeten their bids for the 2,000 megawatt, 4.0 billion euro ($5.75 billion) power plant at the Danube river town of Belene.

Bulgaria To Start Building Belene Nuke in 2009 - Official

(Novinite) Bulgaria will be able to start construction works on the planned Belene nuclear power plant no sooner than 2009, the head of the country's nuclear regulator said on Monday.

The regulator is yet to rule on the technical details of the project and the proposed safety measures, said Sergey Tsochev, who chairs Bulgaria's Nuclear Regulation Agency.

BRUSSELS, Dec 7 (Reuters) - The European Commission gave a green light o the construction of a new, 4-billion-euro ($5.82 billion) nuclear power plant in Bulgaria with capacity of 2,000 megawatts, it said on Friday.

"The Commission has decided today to give a favourable opinion to the initiative of Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania (NETC) of Bulgaria to build a new nuclear power plant at the site of Belene," the EU executive said in a statement.

PM Stanishev (left) and Finance Minister Oresharski (right) have both backed the project to the hilt so far, and Bulgaria's low foreign debt allows the cabinet to underwrite the loans.

Bulgaria's cabinet decided on Monday to double the amount of debt it is willing to guarantee for the construction of the country's second nuclear power plant at Belene.

Energiebedrijf Delta wil in België centrales bouwen. De ruimte in het Sloe wil het benutten voor een tweede kerncentrale. "Met de Sloecentrale zijn we er niet."
De palen voor de Sloecentrale zijn koud de grond in of Delta kijkt al weer verder. "We moeten wel, om de concurrentie het hoofd te bieden." Voor de duidelijkheid trekt Dick van der Klaauw, directeur energie, een vergelijking met koeriersbedrijven. "Wij zijn een koerier met vier auto's en concurreren met bedrijven met drieduizend wagens. Valt er bij ons een auto uit, dan merken we dat direct."

Pressrelease: Le 19 avril dernier, lors de l’essai d’un filtre installé sur les équipements de ventilation d’une partie des locaux nucléaires de la centrale de Tihange 2, une manoeuvre erronée a occasionné un rejet gazeux à l’atmosphère. En effet, un échantillon de test d’iode 131 a été injecté au-delà du filtre qu’il devait vérifier. L’iode s’est ainsi retrouvé à l’atmosphère via la gaine de ventilation. La quantité prédéterminée contenue dans l’échantillon correspond à moins de 1% de la limite légale autorisée sur un trimestre.
