On the 22nd of July 2015 the device containing radioactive source previously reported stolen has been recovered.
On the 15th of July 2015 workers conducting industrial gammagraphy lost a device containing a category 2 radioactive source (GammaMat TI-F device with 1.76TBq Ir-192 source) at a construction site in Gliwice. Being unable to locate the device the workers assumed that they had left it at a construction site of a heat pipeline in Zabrze where they had worked earlier that day. The workers returned to Zabrze and as they didn’t find the device there, they reported to the authorities that it had been stolen.
The device was found near the construction site in Gliwice by a homeless person who was looking for scrap metal. After a reward was offered for help in locating the stolen device the finder reported its location to the authorities. The device has been safely recovered by the licensee. The shielding container is intact and the radioactive source remained locked inside the container. Owing to that fact no people were exposed to radiation doses above statutory limits.
