BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) — The Slovak government has chosen the Czech Republic’s main power utility CEZ AS as its strategic partner to build a new nuclear power station in Slovakia.
CEZ spokesman Ladislav Kriz said Wednesday the two planned to establish a joint company next year that will build and operate the plant by 2020.

Nov 17 (Interfax) – The Russian nuclear fuel producer TVEL and Slovenske Elektrarne signed two long- term contracts on the production and delivery of fuel to Slovak nuclear power plants on Monday, an Interfax correspondent reported from the signing ceremony.
Slovenske Elektrarne Director General Paolo Ruzzini and TVEL President Yuri Olenin are signatories to the document. The ceremony took place at the TVEL Machine-Building Plant. (more…)

Paris, 17 September: Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and French President Nicolas Sarkozy today signed an agreement on cooperation in nuclear energy and agreements on strategic partnership which is expected to enhance all-round relations between the two countries.
“France and Slovakia have clearly opted for nuclear energy. It covers 50 per cent of electric energy consumption in Slovakia,” the French presidential office said on the meeting. (more…)

BRATISLAVA, Aug 25 (Reuters) – Slovak power firm Slovenske Elektrarne (SE) has launched a tender to find a builder to finish two new blocks at the Mochovce nuclear power plant, it said in the Official Journal of the European Union on Monday.
The power generator, managed by Italian utility and 66 percent shareholder Enel, said bidders should submit letters of interest by Sept 18. It said it expected final bids would be due on Dec 8. (more…)

Bratislava, 16 July: Russian open joint-stock company TVEL has maintained its position in Slovakia, having won the tender for the supply of nuclear fuel for five power-generating units of the local Mochovce and Bohunice nuclear power plants until 2015, management company Slovenskie Elektrarne has reported.
These plants were built to Russian design and equipped with VVER-440 reactors. (more…)

Journalist Goldirova sent, from Brussels, a report on a letter written by the Slovak prime minister, in which he warned the European Commission that, unless it soon announced its position on the completion of Mochovce [nuclear power station], the Slovak Government would have to “consider all options, including a proposal to postpone the decommissioning of the second block of the V1 reactor [in Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear power station] until 2010.” It follows from the report that Prime Minister Fico now behaves in the same way towards the EU as he behaves in domestic politics. BRATISLAVA, June 16 (Reuters) – Italy’s utility Enel said on Monday it has boosted the installed capacity at Slovakia’s nuclear power plant Mochovce by seven percent to ease the country’s electricity import needs. Enel, majority owner of leading domestic power firm Slovenske Elektrarne which operates Mochovce, said the capacity boost was to offset the decommissioning of two units at the country’s oldest nuclear power plant at Jaslovske Bohunice. BRATISLAVA (AFP) – Environmental group Greenpeace will lodge a legal challenge to Slovak authorities’ go ahead for the completion of two nuclear power stations in the country’s west, a representative said Wednesday.
The organisation will complain to the supreme court against the go ahead for completion of Mochovce’s third and fourth nuclear reactors without prior environmental impact assessments being carried out. (more…)

BRATISLAVA, Oct 10 (Reuters) – Slovakia will probably launch a tender to build a new 1,200 megawatt nuclear plant in 2009 and has been approached by more than six potential investors, Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek said on Wednesday.
The country, which needs to meet rising demand for power in the fast growing economy and replace decommissioned stations, plans to build the plant consisting of two units at the existing Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear site by 2025, he said.

THE STATE ironed out the final wrinkles plaguing the sale of Slovak power utility Slovenské elektrárne to Italian buyer Enel in what is the country’s last big privatization deal in the energy sector.
Slovakia might soon see its nuclear power plant in Mochovce completed, along with the construction of its first wind power plant if power producer Enel makes good on its investment plan promises. (more…)
