Greenpeace study warns cernavoda inhabitants of tritium dangers from nuclear power plant

Bucharest, 31 October 2007 – Today, the international environmental organisation Greenpeace presented a study on tritium emissions [1] from the Cernavoda nuclear power plant. It commissioned the study from the international tritium expert Dr. Ian Fairlie from the United Kingdom. The study recommends that pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children (under 4) should not live within 10 kilometres of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, and that people living within 5 kilometres should not consume food from their gardens, beehives, orchards, and wild foods growing nearby. Romania plans to build second nuclear power plant

Fri Oct 5, 2007 3:47pm BST CERNAVODA, Romania, Oct 5 (Reuters) – Romania plans to build a second nuclear power plant after the completion of two more reactors at its Cernavoda plant on the Danube river, Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu said on Friday.

European Union newcomer Romania has set an Oct. 25 deadline to receive binding bids for the licence to build and operate Units 3 and 4 in Cernavoda, an investment estimated at 2.2 billion euros. (more…)
