Tvel, Slovenske Elektrarne Agree on Fuel Supplies to Slovak Npps

Nov 17 (Interfax) - The Russian nuclear fuel producer TVEL and Slovenske Elektrarne signed two long- term contracts on the production and delivery of fuel to Slovak nuclear power plants on Monday, an Interfax correspondent reported from the signing ceremony.

Slovenske Elektrarne Director General Paolo Ruzzini and TVEL President Yuri Olenin are signatories to the document. The ceremony took place at the TVEL Machine-Building Plant. (more…)

Ukraine to sign nuclear fuel deals with Russia by yearend

KOLONTAYEVO (Moscow Region), October 21 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine is set to sign three nuclear fuel deals with Russia by the end of this year, the president of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant operator Energoatom said on Tuesday.

Yuriy Nedashkovskiy said two of the deals involved fuel supplies for Ukrainian nuclear power plants, while the other covers the production and enrichment of nuclear fuel from Ukrainian raw materials. (more…)

Ukraine to put $90 mln into nuclear fuel reserve - Energoatom

KIEV, September 26 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine’s government has proposed allocating 450 million hryvnias ($90 million) in next year’s budget to set up a strategic nuclear fuel reserve, the country’s UNIAN new agency said.

“I think we will start gradually forming a fuel reserve next year,” Yuri Nedashkovsky, head of state nuclear power utility Energoatom, was quoted as saying on Thursday.

He said the allocation had been included in the draft budget for 2009. (more…)

Bulgaria regulator cleans nuclear plant image

SOFIA, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Bulgaria’s nuclear regulator on Friday rejected accusations that nuclear power plant Kozloduy used dangerous recycled fuel, firing back against sustained criticism of the plant’s safety.
In July, a nuclear scientist and long-term Kozloduy employee, Georgi Kotev, accused the plant in his web blog and several media interviews of using second-hand fuel. (more…)

Russia, Ukraine continuing nuclear talks

RBC, 27.08.2008, Moscow 09:59:36.A meeting of the Russian-Ukrainian sub-commission on atomic energy and nuclear materials, which started on Tuesday, will continue today. It is expected that, among other things, the commission will discuss the signing of a long-term contract for the supplies of Russia’s nuclear fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants after 2010. The Russian corporation TVEL is proposing to ink an agreement until 2025, but Ukraine has not yet decided on a term for which it would like to order the fuel. Ukraine’s proposed participation in the international uranium enrichment center in Angarsk in southeastern Siberia could also be brought up. (more…)

Italians to build transport vessel for spent nuclear fuel

The Russian state company on nuclear energy Rosatom this week signed an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Economic Development over the construction of a vessel for transports of spent nuclear fuel from bases on the Kola Peninsula.

According to Rosatom, the vessel will be financed as a whole by the Italian side. The ship, which is to be built by the company Fincantieri is expected to cost 71,5 million EUR. (more…)

Putin takes look at technology of nuclear fuel production for nuclear power plants

ELEKTROSTAL, July 29 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has taken a look at technology of nuclear fuel production for nuclear power plants during his visit to the machine-building plant Elemash on Tuesday.

He was shown the whole technological chain – from production of “nuclear tablets” to heat clusters.

The plant’s director general Oleg Kryukov said “this is wholly our production - design, software and drawings; we buy parts abroad”. (more…)

Russian Company Retains Contract to Supply Nuclear Fuel to Slovakia

Bratislava, 16 July: Russian open joint-stock company TVEL has maintained its position in Slovakia, having won the tender for the supply of nuclear fuel for five power-generating units of the local Mochovce and Bohunice nuclear power plants until 2015, management company Slovenskie Elektrarne has reported.

These plants were built to Russian design and equipped with VVER-440 reactors. (more…)

Russia to supply 7 kg of nuclear fuel for Ukraine test reactor

MOSCOW, November 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russian state-run nuclear fuel producer TVEL will supply 7 kilograms of low enriched uranium to a research reactor in Ukraine in 2008, the company announced on Thursday.

The nuclear fuel will be delivered under a Russian-U.S. program, Reduced Enrichment for Research and Test Reactors (RERTR), aimed at developing technical methods to convert reactors from the use of highly-enriched uranium (HEU), which can be used in atom bombs, to low enriched uranium (LEU). (more…)
